the endz

I would say that my skill level has greatly increased as far as the way I view value. But my head still hasn't wrapped around the entire concept. I find that I like line work way more the value-- I do enjoy reaching outside of my safe zone.

The critques were kind of lame. I would actually spend time evluating my fellow students work with care and concidration... personally I could give a damn about the particpation grade... I really think you should listen out for honestesty in critque. I think the reason we were all off an on is because this was a morning class. I just hate morning classes, but I guess we all have to do what we don't want to. I did like hearing the Jason comments because I could actually understand them... and I felt like sometimes Tyler and I were the only ones who felt the nerve to speak out... and be critical.

The assignments were good and allowed me to think outside of the box and I liked that the most. I mean I knew what was coming because my roommate had drawing 2 last semester. Compared to drawing 1 this class rewuired a lot more work and time wich I didn't mind. I would say work wise this was my favorite class- and as for my fellow students enthisatism- not so much.

Like minded people, GET EXCITED!

Collage examples

jenny morgan

the image is working in my opinion. she uses newsprint and i've done this before and it can get confusing. she uses it in a way of transforming the image from simple and plain value to something interesting. I like the use color choice and the way the collage is put together gives it a sense of movement and it something I enjoy... esp in the neck and the face.

this is more of a ready made college but i do enjoy the background of the person... it gives it a sense of a horizon line. other then that it is flat as a pancake....jk giving it a second look the composition gives it a sense of dept.

Another newsprint piece... i just like incorporating text with value. it makes since to me and this one does it well. esp the chaos in the background. but the value in the nose is a little soft and needs some darker shadows... kind of the boring side but like i said i like using collage and newsprint like this.

Example Artist: Mark Making Build Up

Kristin Pluhacek

It looks unfinished but with what is there I can tell she uses it just like we've done in class. Compared to my own she does it very smooth and less cross hatching. I liked the range of value she uses and the emotion on his face. The use of white is really strong. Even though it's unfinished I like the deconstruction look to it.

This is her self portrait and I really liked the way she used the discolor-"ness" towards the (viewer left) eye and arms. It, to me, really gave a major focus and personality to the portrait. Along with that it gives it sense of push and pull. With the blue background and colors in her clothing and the warm colors around the arms. With repeating use of bright vibrant blue in the clothing ties in the figure not to be lost. The mark making Is very harsh and smooth, I like it because it gives it a sense contrast.

I think this mark making is more line concentrated but I like the plains that are built up by the mark making. My favorite part of his work is how destructive it is but its also fine tuned at the same time. The main focus that I see the plains being "used" is in the face. The values are pretty simple and basic which makes me think of this as more as line than value. I do enjoy the simply layering though, very basic and graphic.

Ink Exterior Experience

This was by far the worse of all the homework assignments!

So I was being lazy (kind of) by drawing from my kitchen window. The only real reason I did this was because I liked the lighting of our neighbors pool, because they had lighting surrounding the pool. I thought wrong, the plants and shit where just a big mess and this grill with a tarp on it was just... ugh I don't even wanna talk about it.

Then trying to take pictures of it was just impossible. I was thinking " ok I'll just open the window and it'll be fine..." NOPE. There was a screen blocking my way and it was a struggle to get a few decent pictures that I got. I think my down fall was picking the exterior that I did and saying to myself " just keep with it." But I did get a few photos that I enjoy as a consolation.

Some of the interesting mistake photos-

Also to add to the "worse-ness" this happened-

Hated this assignment and the neighbors dogs barked the whole time I was creepily drawing.

Artist of Intrest: Gabriel Orozco

Contemporary artist-- I like the idea behind his work, very conceptual, and also his multimedia pursuits.

Here are a few of my favorites.
